My aims
Short term to become champion All Japan Championship U-18, Inter-high. Long term I want to bear the responsibility for Japan’s future and play at the Olympic Games.
Hayate Suzuki got used to competing with the big guys pretty early: He started playing table tennis with his elder brothers.
Permanently matching with superior partners may help you to develop your own skills, but you’ll have to bear chasing the others for quite a while first.
Well, that time is long gone. In 2021, the 17-year-old Hayate won a silver medal at the Japanese U18 Championships – regarding the high number of promising Japanese talents and the remarkable power density, this was an outstanding success.
Like tens of thousands of other Japanese kids, little Hayate Suzuki dreamed of competing with the big stars one day and in 2016, then aged 12, he had a crucial encounter: He visited the Men’s World Cup in Saarbrücken, Germany, where his sponsor DONIC organized a meeting with Jörgen Persson. The Swede had won the World Championships 1991, enjoying a great reputation worldwide ever since, and because he won his title in Chiba, Japan, each Japanese child loving table tennis knows his name.
Jörgen Persson took his time to play a while with young Hayate – a key moment that blew the boy’s mind. Hayate Suzuki returned to Japan extremely excited and highly motivated, and he went on practicing. And practicing. And practicing...
"I want to take on responsibility for Japans future and take part in the Olympic Games."
The result is noticeable: He has a very good technique and a strong forehand ndash; a DONIC Bluestorm Z1 Turbo on a DONIC Original True Carbon helps him play powerful topspins. His backhand is stable, thanks to his DONIC Bluestorm JP01 Turbo, gaining just the right mixture of penetration power and safety. On top of that he has fast footwork and a good overview.
Hayate Suzuki feels ready for the next step: He plans to leave home and move to Germany, where he wants to practice and compete. His destination would be the Master College in Ochsenhausen, where DONIC supports young talents since many years.
